1. What is moissanite?

Moissanite a beautiful and rare mineral which occurs naturally in the form of silicon carbide. The stone was discovered by a French chemist called Henri Moissan in 1893. While examining rock samples from a meteor crater in Arizona he saw the crystal and mistook it for a diamond. Moissanite has a refractive index that is higher than that of a diamond and gems such as ruby and sapphire making it an absolutely brilliant gemstone. A moissanite gem is approximately one-tenth the cost of a mined diamond of equal size and quality.
